It’s a crypto-first casino run by Gareton B.V. under Curaçao Gaming Authority licence OGL/2024/165/0185, and it is not registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) or iGaming Ontario — so for Canadians it’s an offshore option.

It built its name on two things. Crypto came first: Bitstarz bills itself as the first online casino to take both Bitcoin and regular currencies. Welcome Bonus

The headline offer is up to C$500 (or 5 BTC) plus 180 free spins, spread across your first four deposits of C$20 or more. The free spins arrive in batches of 20 a day over nine days, starting after your first deposit. Sources don’t agree on the exact split per deposit, so check the promotions page once you’re logged in before you deposit.

The terms that decide whether it’s worth taking:

• 40× wagering on the bonus. Clearing the full C$500 means C$20,000 in bets before bonus winnings can be cashed out.
• C$5 max bet while the bonus is active. Go over it once and you forfeit the bonus and anything you won with it.
• 7 days to finish. At the C$5 cap, C$20,000 is about 4,000 spins — roughly 570 a day for a week.
• Slots count 100%. Table games, live casino and bingo count 5%, and progressive jackpots don’t count at all.

In practice this is a slot player’s bonus, and it only works if you stay disciplined. Table play does count, but at 5% it takes twenty times as much betting to clear the same amount.

Provincial Legality

Bitstarz accepts players from every province — Canada isn’t on its restricted-countries list, which we checked against its own terms. It isn’t on the iGaming Ontario operator register, and neither Gareton B.V. nor the wider Softswiss group is registered with AGCO.

What that means for you: if you’re in Ontario and a payout dispute goes wrong, you can’t take it to iGaming Ontario. You’d be relying on independent mediators like Casino Guru and AskGamblers instead. The minimum age is 19, or 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.

Responsible Gambling

Bitstarz has a Play Safe page covering its responsible gaming policy, but it doesn’t list the account tools — deposit limits, loss limits, time-outs, self-exclusion — on its public pages. Our Take

Bitstarz is the strongest crypto-first casino we’ve reviewed for Canadians outside the AGCO/iGO system. Three findings put it there. Casino Guru has no unfair or predatory clauses on file for its terms. It has the best complaint record in our directory: AskGamblers shows 18 of 18 complaints resolved, in about a day on average. And Bitstarz states crypto withdrawals are processed in about 10 minutes once KYC clears. The awards back this up — they span several years, not one good season.

Two things count against it. The first is regulatory: Bitstarz isn’t AGCO-registered, so Ontario players have no iGaming Ontario complaints process to fall back on. Its mediation record helps, but it isn’t a substitute.

The second is the bonus. C$20,000 of wagering in seven days at a C$5 max bet rewards slow, steady slot play and catches out anyone trying to clear it fast. That one clause, not the way Bitstarz treats players, is behind most of the negative feedback we found. If you play conservatively the offer is fair. If you bet bigger, it isn’t a reason to sign up.

Most negative feedback comes back to the bonus rules — going over the C$5 max bet, or asking for a withdrawal before finishing KYC — rather than to Bitstarz failing to pay. The serious red flags (ignored self-exclusion, frozen funds, terms changed after the fact, KYC used to stall payouts) barely appear.

Player Complaints

The most recent Casino Guru case (14 May 2026) is an unresolved withdrawal delay from a player in Ireland — too early to judge. Older complaints mostly involve bonus terms and KYC timing. Verdict
